Arturo Lanzani
Italian landscapes
|
Over the last fifty years of Republican life, Italian landscape undertook a dramatic transformation, after long periods of slow and small changes. This essay presents a wide and complete overview of this process, questioning about future scenarios and politics to be implemented. In the first part of the book, Lanzani offers a reading of major settlement changes with a careful consideration of the plurality of contexts and internal landscapes. He also provides a detailed account of the actual meanings and limits of a landscape politics today. In the second part some specific features of contemporary are carefully examined, focusing on the most momentous economic and social changes – the reorganization of commercial settlement, and the progressive inclusion of communities of migrants. Finally, two specific topics are discussed: the redesign of city centre and peripheries in Milan, and the need for an extensive promotion of ordinary landscapes in areas with diffuse urbanization. |
